Heat-up is the expensive part
The elements run at full draw until the room reaches temperature — roughly 35–50 minutes depending on insulation. That block of energy is spent before you sit down.

The thermostat does the saving
Once hot, the heater cycles — elements on only a fraction of each hour to hold the set point. A well-insulated room cycles less; that's the whole economy of good timber.
